Instrument Playground & Performance Showcase

Join musicians from Eureka Ensemble as they guide participants of all ages (5+) through a family-friendly, hands-on exploration of string and wind instruments, followed by performances of quartet and quintet repertoire by Mozart and Beethoven! Follow this link to reserve your spot.

No prior musical experience necessary. All instruments will be generously provided by The Musary, JRP Inc., a music instrument lending library. Hosted by the Cambridge Community Center for the Arts (CCCA) at the Multicultural Arts Center (MAC), this workshop is a great opportunity for those hoping to play an instrument for the first time, to listen to some great music, or both.

    Enter from the street-side patio at the Multicultural Arts Center lower level, and either go up the stairs to the Theatre, or take a left through the red door, take the elevator to the 1st floor, and take a left and a right into the Theatre.

Artist & Ensemble Biographies

Hikaru Yonezaki
Praised by the Boston Globe for her “silky tone,” violinist Hikaru Yonezaki is passionately committed to connecting to the world around her, having already been heard in Asia, Europe, and the Americas. She has a strong affinity to double concertos and chamber music repertoire and currently enjoys freelancing and collaborating on various projects in Boston and New York City. She continues to be inspired by Masao Kawasaki and Hyo Kang, whom she studied with at The Juilliard School and the Yale School of Music.

Passacaglia Mason
Passacaglia Mason is a 22 year old violinist pursuing her Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory of Music with Soovin Kim. As an active chamber musician, Passacaglia has recently performed chamber works in Boston Symphony Hall and with the Classical Music Institute as a part of the Escher Quartet Fellowship. Passacaglia has recently participated in festivals such as the Moritzburg Festival Academy, Budapest Festival Akademie, and the Blaricum Music Festival, performing chamber and orchestra music in Germany, Hungary, and the Netherlands. Passacaglia also enjoys teaching privately and at the Boston String Academy.

Emmanuel Koh
Emmanuel Koh is a software engineer and musician who is passionate about making classical music accessible to a wider audience. He earned a B.M. in Viola Performance from the University of Michigan and an M.M. in Strings Performance from the University of Akron, where he studied conducting under Maestro Guy Bordo and violin/viola pedagogy under Alan Bodman. He also holds a M.M. in Curatorial, Critical, and Performance Studies from Bard College. He spent several years in New York serving as violin/viola faculty at the Bard College preparatory division and administrator at Bard College Conservatory of Music, while performing regularly as an orchestral violist. Emmanuel now lives in Boston with his wife and enjoys playing chamber music with the Eureka String Quartet.

Alan Toda-Ambaras
Recipient of the Prize for Most Promising Contestant at the 2005 Rostropovich International Cello Competition in Paris, Alan Toda-Ambaras is active as both a soloist and a chamber musician. He has performed with Midori; Yo-Yo Ma, Sandeep Das, and other members of the Silk Road Ensemble; the Parker Quartet; the Borromeo Quartet; and has appeared twice as a soloist with the North Carolina Symphony. Recent appearances include performances in Tokyo’s Ohji Hall, Osaka's Phoenix Hall, National Academy of Music in Vietnam, Massachusetts State Hall, the Taos Music Festival, Harvard University's Paine Hall, and the New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. Alan has a B.A. in History of Art and Architecture from Harvard and an M.M. from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with Laurence Lesser. He is a co-founder of the Eureka Ensemble, a young social action-oriented Boston music organization.

Milos Bjelica
A native of Serbia, Milos Bjelica is a Boston-based clarinetist and educator. His work as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player has taken him to many cities across Europe and the United States. In addition to his rich playing career, Milos has also been teaching clarinet for the past fourteen years, both in public and private schools, privately, as well as through summer programs in Serbia, Europe, and in the United States. Milos is the recipient of numerous awards at national and international competitions including the Concerto and Honors competition at the Longy School of Music (2017) the Harold Wright Merit Award in Boston (2016), Concerto competition at the Boston University (2020). Milos holds a DMA from Boston University, a Master’s degree, and an Artist Diploma from the Longy School of Music of Bard College, as well as a BA from the University of Belgrade.
