FEARLESS: EUREKA AT BPL

A musical and educational initiative to empower female voices in the arts through performance and interactive workshops with young audiences.

During our 2018-19 season, Eureka teamed up the Boston Public Library (bpl) at six branches to empower female voices in the arts through performance and interactive workshops with young audiences.

Each event consisted of two parts:

  • The first half featured chamber performances of works by women composers and brief reflections by Eureka musicians on said composers’ social and musical significance.

  • During the second half, the musicians performed simplified transcriptions of contemporary pop hits and familiar songs, again by women artists, and teach young volunteers from the audience to play, sing, drum, or clap  along with them. Eureka musicians will have a supply of instruments on loan from our partner organization, the Musary, to facilitate the latter half of the event.

We held six performance and workshop events throughout the fall of 2018, each at one of the following BPL branches:

  1. Central Library

  2. East Boston

  3. Codman

  4. South Boston

  5. Brighton

  6. Jamaica Plain
